When a family moved to Portland, Oregon after living overseas for the past nine years, it gave the team at Nifelle Interiors the opportunity to completely reimagine a 1940s Colonial home, transforming every element to perfectly suit the family’s needs.

“They brought their fabulous live edge dining table and chairs, Japanese scrolls and chests, and a piano,” said principal Jennifer Leonard, “Everything else in the home was sourced by our firm, from furniture and window coverings, to original art, to luxury sheeting and towels. In this way, we were able to work together with the clients, incorporating their pieces from their travels and their family history with beautiful new finishes, furniture, fabrics and more to really make this their home.”

The clients wanted a space that was sophisticated, but very livable for a family of five, which includes three teenage boys. Materials in the home needed to be both durable and beautiful, and the interior configuration was totally reimagined. The result is a home that feels very light and airy, yet retains its classical structure.

Rugs from JD Staron, and fabric and furniture from Kravet, Lee Jofa and Threads added to the serene and comfortable energy of the home, and personal artwork and artifacts from the family’s travels added personality and charm.

Jennifer Leonard, a second-generation interior designer, founded the Portland, Oregon-based firm Nifelle Design Fine Interiors in 2005. Featured in national and regional publications such as Luxe Magazine, Gray, Oregon Home, Sunset, and Angie’s List (perennial winner of the Super Service Award), Jennifer’s work is recognized for its classic and timeless elegance and livable practicality.
